About Me

I'm an army wife, working mom of 2 kids.! My husband Tim is a Soldier In the army. I work for MWR for the Community Recreation Division as an admin assistant...I absolutely LOVE my job I couldn't have found anything better! My daughter, Kennedie, was born in January of 04 and our son, Cale, was born June of 09. Kennedie is VERY involved in dancing, she is in her 11th season (2019-2020) of being a competitive dancer. It's exhausting but we LOVE it. Cale is starting to REALLY get into sports. He is on a year round wrestling team, and he plays baseball in the spring! This blog started out as a recipe sharing venture but now it's going to turn into a more "granola" way to live. Cheap recipes more homemade recipes and re-purposing things. I'm a crafter at heart so I'm going to throw some of that in there too! On Valentines Day of 2017 we bought our first Travel Trailer. I'll be documenting our travels also on this blog!

Defuniak Springs, Florida

We made the trip to Defuniak again!  Our friends were visiting some family and it is such a quick trip it was an easy decision to go! Since we moved from Texas we don't get to see them as often!  We left after work on Friday night (after we fixed Tim's blown tire on his way home - thankfully we took my car this trip!)

First we went to dinner at Café Nola.  This place was AWESOME!  I had just a basic fried fish dinner, it was great and everyone else said their food was delicious as well.  There is a hotel attached to the Café.  Apparently room 8 is haunted.
There are 12 rooms.  Two adjoining rooms are downstairs and 3-12 are upstairs.

The lobby area from the stairs.
Rooms 1 and 2.
A little café area right outside the entrance lobby of the hotel.
This is taken from the entrance of the restaurant portion of the hotel.
There is also a bar just inside the entrance off to the side.
This table was great and able to fit us all!
Of course we had to get some beignets! They were SO GOOD!!!
After visiting for a bit we went back to our motel room and hung out!
Woke up the next morning and met at the local Walmart to get lunch stuff for our trip to Vortex Springs!  Cale loves clowning around with Uncle Benny!
Packing away all the cooler stuff!
Drove 20 minutes and made it to Vortex Springs.
They have a cute little dive shop.
Guys putting together our shade tent.
Some pictures of Vortex Springs.  The water stays 68 degrees year round.  It was a little overcast when we first got there so it wasn't too hot, but later in the day the clouds parted and it got pretty hot!

Behind us was another pool area and it had a huge water slide!
Guys didn't bring a speaker so they improvised with a can!
I did some "reading".
They have a camp ground and some cabins.  In one area they had a "motel" style cabin and it looked like it had a lot of college students at it.

They have a kayak and a few canoes available for people to use.  I don't know if they are free for anyone with a wristband or what, but lots of people were using them and I never saw anyone get told to not use it.  So Kennedie pulled a canoe out and went to town.

 Our little area.
I love this picture that Tiffany got of Tim coming off the water slide!
We left around 3:30 and as you can tell he was tuckered out!  We went back to the motel to rest a couple hours and then headed to dinner.
4C BBQ is what we found through our google search. Didn't expect more than a BBQ restaurant.  Boy were we surprised when we got inside!
I guess Saturday nights are Karaoke nights!
They sat us in the middle of the dance floor apparently.  The minute we sat down the regulars hopped up when the music started for the night.  Man they knew EVERY line dance there ever was created!
This family and another family was our original Army family.  The 6 of us all dated at the same time and all 3 of the guys that were in the army together married Alaskan girls!  Tim is the only one of the group left in the army.
Cale NEVER snuggles daddy like this.  So he was soaking it up!  I left and took the kids back to the motel so they could go to sleep.
It was cool to see the brewery we have 20 minutes up the road from our house being served in Florida.
I thought the doors to the bathrooms were cute!

They are building an addition to the BBQ restaurant called the Hero's sports bar.  The owner took us over to have a peek.  It will be really cool when it's all done!

The next morning we headed back home.  We love Defuniak Springs and we always find something new when we go there.  No doubt though that we will be back to Visit 4C BBQ.  That place was a blast for the whole family!!

Twin Lakes Resort Camp

TWIN LAKES CAMP RESORT

We recently just traveled to DeFuniak Springs, FL and we reserved a spot only a few weeks prior at Twin Lakes Camp Resort.  Yup you read that right in the SUMMER we were able to find a spot at a campground in Florida spur of the moment! (This a lesson we are unfortunately learning in the first summer of owning our own travel trailer. You have to reserve a spot sometimes a YEAR in advance! UGH!) (I didn't realize how bad quality my cell phone pictures would turn out on this post - so I apologize in advance!)

My kids love learning how to hook up and set up the trailer.  Which is nice for me because sometimes my husband might take them without me to visit family. I'm hoping to get my 13 year old good enough to back him up to the trailer.

We were given the spots in the H section - which is right as you come in and we were right across from the country store. The couple from Canada next to us shared this awesome deck and really long picnic table.  You can see the lake behind them. Kids under 16 can fish for free in FL, so we ended up having to go to Wal-Mart and get my son a fishing pole. (No my daughter isn't wearing winter headgear.  They are headphones that you don't have to stick in your ears :P )

Waiting for our friends to show up so we could start grilling dinner!

Another shot of the deck.

Their pool was HUGE, my son enjoyed going into it.  (I realize now that I have a TON of pictures of my 8 year old - apparently the 13 year old was playing the sullen teenager card all weekend!)

We made a trip to Ponce de Leon Springs State Park that is right in DeFuniak Springs.  The water was FREEZING! But this daredevil and my husband seemed to really like it!

He loves being the center of attention!

Another view of the deck.

I took these from our spot the morning we left.  This is the country store where you would check in - and they have a variety of "oh no I forgot to bring this" RV supplies.

This building right next door to the store is the Activity Center and the Bathrooms/showers.  The first part is the Activity Center and the part with the V part in the roof is the Bathrooms/showers.  There is a walkway between the store and this building that leads you to the swimming pool which is directly behind this building.

They have a few of these fields, just open places for kids to run around, play ball...There was one right behind us as well.

Their bathrooms are dual purpose.  They have (I believe) 4 of these for everyone to use. (also in the bathhouse is the washer/dryer if you needed one)

Just another view of the bathroom/shower

The gate that has a code on it.

My husband thought this was an awesome work truck.

We left at 11am at checkout time.  WHEW it was hot!

This was a GREAT campground and we loved our weekend stay there. The cost was VERY reasonable at around $50 per night. The campground was small, but the camp hosts were super friendly, the property was BEAUTIFUL with it being surrounded by water (which is unswimable but that's ok), VERY clean and very well kept.  They also provided cable TV, which was a bummer for us because we haven't had a chance to hook up the TV we bought for the trailer yet, so we just kept hooked up to their WIFI and my kids watched movies on there Ipad/Iphone's at night.  This will definitely be a spot we return too. We wished they had offered military discount but they DO offer a Good Sam discount and we can get a discount card for free with Good Sam while my husband is active duty.  So I'm working on getting them the correct information to make that happen.
