I'm an army wife, working mom of 2 kids.! My husband Tim is a Soldier In the army. I work for MWR for the Community Recreation Division as an admin assistant...I absolutely LOVE my job I couldn't have found anything better! My daughter, Kennedie, was born in January of 04 and our son, Cale, was born June of 09. Kennedie is VERY involved in dancing, she is in her 11th season (2019-2020) of being a competitive dancer. It's exhausting but we LOVE it. Cale is starting to REALLY get into sports. He is on a year round wrestling team, and he plays baseball in the spring! This blog started out as a recipe sharing venture but now it's going to turn into a more "granola" way to live. Cheap recipes more homemade recipes and re-purposing things. I'm a crafter at heart so I'm going to throw some of that in there too! On Valentines Day of 2017 we bought our first Travel Trailer. I'll be documenting our travels also on this blog!

We went to VEGAS! Yes you can take a family vacation there!!!

We originally had a fight Oct 3rd, so all our Ohana booked flights to Las Vegas.  2 weeks before the fight the promotion told us they were postponing the fight by a week.  So we all begrudgingly paid to have our flights changed.  Then the next week they decided they were going to push it to November.  But because the Army has a say in this and we were all spending money on changing flights we decided we weren't fighting with that promotion anymore, but since we all had tickets that we couldn't get refunded we took a family vacation.  12 strong!

Of course Cale knew we were going to Vegas he just didn't know when.  The night before we left our dog had a "veterinary appointment".  He hung out at dance for a couple hours until the lady that boards him arrived with her daughter.  There is a little 2 year old girl that is deathly afraid of dogs, Kennedie was blocking her view for about 15 minutes between her classes.
That night I also was going through Cales backpack and was looking for his DS charger cord, in one of the pockets I found his pocket knife.  Yeah that would have been fun to go through security with!
Tuesday Morning - the day we flew out.  It was also homecoming week.  This days theme was dress like your favorite teacher.  Well it's no secret that Cale loves PE, so he dressed up as Coach Z.  He still has no clue we are going to be in Vegas later that night.
Ugh story of my life with tires!
Pulled into the gas station on post and found it was this tire that was low.  Then I see the gash - no idea where it came from.  I will full and readily admit I'm a curb checker - but this is on the drivers side so honestly have no idea where I got it.  Normally I would have just kept airing it up until it wouldn't hold air anymore but I knew driving to the airport and then leaving the car for 3 days would only end in disaster.  So thankfully our division includes Auto Skills, and they happen to be directly across the street from my office so I called right when I got into work.  They opened the gates for me to pull in and I told them I just HAD to have the tire by noon if they could do it.
By 1130 I had a new tire and I was back home to meet Tim and pack the car up.
We have never cut it so close to making our flight.  We usually are ALWAYS at the airport 2 hours before flight time.  This time we were there about an hour and a half before. It made me SO nervous!  We flew Frontier so I had checked me and the kids in online already - we didn't technically have a bag under the plane so all we had to do was check Tim in at the counter because he is military and gets 2 bags for free under the plane.

Made it through security - thankfully because Tim is military he qualifies for TSA pre-check and they let us all through.  All we gotta do now is meet the rest of the Ohana that is waiting for us at the gate.
Again because all the guys we were traveling with were military we got on the plane first.  Thankfully my friends saw that seats about a week prior to take off were on sale for $5 a seat so we all picked a row and purchased seats.  We sat the guys further up the plane in the more expensive seats.  One is over 6 foot and just needed the leg space and the other two are "broken" and needed the space for knees that would be hurt cramped in our little unreclining seats.
These girls crack me up!

Most of our row!
All the guys sitting together in their cush chairs!
One of the teens had to sit in front of us
It was only a 4 hour flight but it was a 3 hour time change.
LAS VEGAS!!!
Obviously the guys were waiting for us to get off the plane and were cracking up at us walking out with all the kids looking all disheveled.  I was cracking up at Tim's use of his sweater!

We decided to stay at the Excalibur, and we were all able to be on the same floor.  It is a budget friendly hotel and after all of us having to pay to change air fares it was right up our alley.  Tim's and my philosophy about hotels are "we are only there to shower and sleep - we don't need anything fancy, just clean!".
The MGM family of hotels lets you check in 24 hours before you are actually going to be there.  You tell them what time you are going to show up and they plan their rooms according to that.  I actually did check in online and when we landed I had an email from them telling me my room number.  We didn't have to wait in the long check in line - we went to the mobile check in counter and picked up our keys that were waiting for us.

Us adults went down stairs to play a couple slots after we ate dinner at Johnny Rockets (which is right outside the elevators on the casino floor - which I should add Johnny Rockets gives a 25% military discount!!!!)
Tim won some money!
I think this one started with $10!!
I won $8!!
The time change started kicking our butt so we all went back upstairs for bed.
